To size: To 5mm. Shell Structure: Thin, fragile. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral, beaks close to anterior margin. Tumidity: Moderate. Outline: Rounded subquadrate, maximum dimension is from anterior to posterior edges; posterior dorsal margin long, slightly curved to a very broadly rounded posterior margin. Ventral margin more narrowly curved. Anterior ventral margin straight to a narrowly curved anterior margin.

Sculpture: Around 35 narrow raised radial lines and concentric growth stops. Margin: Smooth. Ligament: Internal with lithodesma. Hinge: Teeth lacking. Pallial Musculature: Obscure. Periostracum: Very thin, beige. Colour: Translucent.

Distribution & Ecology

Known from Porcupine Sea Bight (1630-1640m).

Bathyal (500 - 2000m)

Additional Information & Related Species

Key Features & Similar Species

The shells that we have identified as being P.atlantica come from the Porcupine Sea Bight. They can be distinguised from the P. densicostata complex by the rather flattened median area and having the maximum dimension across the shell rather than from the umbo to the ventral margin.
