Shell Structure:
Robust, thick shelled.
Equivalve:
Equivalve.
Equilateral:
Inequilateral. Beaks in front of midline.
Tumidity:
Tumid.
Outline:
Subcircular. Posterior dorsal margin slopes steeply to posterior margin. Anterior margin protrudes into the lunule which is heart-shaped and covered with radiating ribs which continue as the concentric lamellae. Escutcheon well-defined, elongate and wider in LV than the RV, covered in radiating lines.
Sculpture:
Concentric lamellae with intersecting fine radial lines to form wart-like protrusions or frills.
Margin:
Ventral and anterior (up to umbo) finely margin crenulate, posterior margin smooth from half way up.
Ligament:
Sunken, extends to just over one third of way along dorsal margin.
Hinge:
Three cardinals in each valve. LV centre bifid, and RV centre and posterior bifid. In LV small tubercule beneath anterior cardinal; a hint of one present in RV.
Pallial Musculature:
Muscle scars roughly equal: Posterior slightly fatter than anterior. Pallial sinus small, triangular.
Periostracum:
Thin, matt.
Colour:
Reddish-brown external, white internal.
