To size: To 16 mm. Shell Structure: Solid shell, fragile at the margins. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral, beaks to the anterior. Tumidity: Tumid. Outline: Rounded quadrangular.
Sculpture: Radial ribs and concentric ridges, ridges becoming larger and frilly at the posterior and ventral margins. Margin: Crenulated. Ligament: Inset thick brown band. Hinge: 3 cardinals in each valve. Pallial Musculature: Adductor muscles approximately same size, pallial sinus short. Colour: White, external with some brown blotches.
Distribution & Ecology
In native range North Carolina, Florida, Bermuda, thoughout West Indies.
In Britain and Ireland it has been found only once attached to a buoy found at Boolakeel, Co. Kerry, Ireland
