Notes on Nomenclature
To size:
To 16mm.
Shell Structure:
Thin, robust.
Equivalve:
Slightly inequivalve, LV overlapping RV.
Equilateral:
Slightly inequilateral, beaks slightly behind the midline.
Tumidity:
Moderately inflated.
Outline:
Body of shell subquadrate; anterior dorsal margin distinct, anterior margin sloping steeply almost straight, ventral broadly rounded. Rostrum very short, narrowly triangular, distinctly upturned, dorsal margin concave, ventral margin weakly concave corresponding to weak sulcus at junction of rostrum and body.
Sculpture:
With about 30-35 radial riblets, those on the anterior variable in expression but increasing in size posteriorly to the beginning of the rostrum then fading over the rostrum, concentric sculpture of fine lines and growth stops.
Margin:
Margin dentate where largest ribs intersect edges.
Ligament:
Internal, on a small chondrophore lying beneath the beaks.
Hinge:
Cardinal teeth absent; RV with a posterior triangular lateral flange situated adjacent to the chondrophore, with corresponding marginal extension in LV.
Pallial Musculature:
Indistinct.
Colour:
Greyish white.
