To size: To 8mm. Shell Structure: Thin, fragile. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Subequilateral, close to or slightly behind the midline. Outline: Body of shell deep, subcircular; anterior and ventral forming a broad continuous curve. Rostrum very short less than length of body, broad, dorsal margin concave, ventral margin slightly concave corresponding to sulcus at junction of rostrum and body.

Sculpture: Of co-marginal raised threads and lines becoming slightly lamellose on rostrum. Margin: Inner margin smooth. Ligament: Ligament internal, small, in a shallow resilifer behind the beaks. Hinge: With a single, weak, anterior laminar tooth in both valves. Pallial Musculature: Obscure. Periostracum: Thin, pale brown in colour. Colour: Shell white.

Distribution & Ecology

Members of the genus Protocuspidaria are known from lower bathyal and abyssal depths including Rockall, Porcupine Sea Bight and Biscay.
