Distribution & Ecology

Associated with the burrowing urchin Brissopsis. Currently known from only a few records from the west coast of Scotland, from the northern North Sea and most recently from west of the Scilly Isles.
Van Aartsen (1997) states the distribution of this species as Atlantic, Lusitanian and Boreal. Probably widely confused with
M. ferruginosa and therefore under recorded as the urchin has a wider range.

Depth Range
Continental Shelf (to 200m)
