To size: To 10mm. Shell Structure: Thin, fragile. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral, beaks in the posterior 1/3. Outline: Subrectangular, expanded anteriorly; dorsal margins rather straight with posterior slightly concave; anterior almost subtruncate deeper than roundly subtruncate posterior. Escutcheon distinct, very narrow.

Sculpture: Almost smooth with fine co-marginal lines. Margin: Inner margin smooth. Ligament: Internal in a wide pit beneath the beaks and inserted deep inside the umbos. Hinge: Of two diverging lateral teeth in each valve, those in the RV clearly separated from shell margin, very short, those in LV as extensions of shell margin. Angle of divergence in RV ca. 90°, in LV 150°. Pallial Musculature: Pallial line entire. Colour: Pale yellowish brown to dirty white. Additional Characters: Prodissoconch 380-480 µm, P1 with 5-6 narrow radial threads, P2 with faint co-marginal growth lines.

Distribution & Ecology

No commensal association has been observed. A deep water species living from the shelf edge to 700m. A Lusitanian/Mediterranean species not recorded from the British region.
