Limatula subauriculata (Montagu, 1808)

Limoidea : Limidae

Tebble name: Lima (Limatula) subauricularia (Montagu)
Smith & Heppell name: Limatula subauriculata (Montagu, 1803)

To size: To 7mm. Shell Structure: Solid for size. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Equilateral. Tumidity: Inflated. Outline: Narrowly oval, ears small with dorsal margins slightly sloping. Lateral margins gently and evenly curved; ventral margin narrowly curved but not angulate. Dorsal area wide.

Sculpture: 22-26 radial riblets that normally create marginal crenulations with further radial striae on the anterior and posterior dorsal slopes. The interspace between the two median riblets slightly wider than elsewhere and present as a distinct groove especially over the umbonal area. This groove is represented as an internal radial rib bounded by a narrow groove on either side. The riblets are acutely angled, interspaces narrow with weak concentric striae that do not noticeably dissect the apices of the riblets. Ligament: In a wide triangular resilifer on the cardinal area. Hinge: Hinge plate on either side of resilifer smooth. Pallial Musculature: Mostly obscure, single subcircular posterior adductor scar visible in some. Periostracum: Thin, obscure. Colour: White.
