To size: To 45mm. Shell Structure: Solid. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Equilateral. Tumidity: Tumid. Outline: Subtrigonal. Posterior dorsal margin long and fairly straight, extends to rounded triangular end. Lunule heart-shaped and clearly defined with radiating ridges. Escutcheon indistinct depression.

Sculpture: Concentric ridges. In places ridge may branch/merge into another. Margin: Finely crenulate. Ligament: Sunken, discreet. Extends a third of dorsal margin. Hinge: 3 cardinals in each valve. No lateral. Pallial Musculature: Muscle scars roughly equal: Posterior slightly fatter than anterior. Pallial sinus small, triangular. Periostracum: Thin, matt. Colour: Cream/beige/yellow/brown may have 3 rays/lines/streaks/zigzags/blotches of reddish-brown/purple extending from umbos. Internal white sometimes with purple/yellow/orange around pallial sinus or under umbos.

Distribution & Ecology

Widely distributed on all coasts from the low intertidal to the outer shelf. Lives in fine to coarse sand frequently with a silty component. In clean sand and muddy sand.
