To size: To 60mm. Shell Structure: Solid. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral. Beaks in front of midline. Tumidity: Not tumid. Outline: Sub-circular. Lunule prominent but short, with radiating ridges. Margin curves up steeply out of it. Escutcheon absent.

Sculpture: Evenly spaced concentric ridges and growth lines. Margin: Smooth. Ligament: Deeply inset and extends about two thirds of margin. Hinge: 3 cardinals in each valve. In LV small protrusion in front of anterior cardinal. Pallial Musculature: Pallial sinus very deep, extending towards top of adductor, narrowing towards end and rounded. Periostracum: Thin, matt. Colour: Cream, beige rays may extend from umbos.

Distribution & Ecology

Widely distributed on all coasts from the low intertidal. Generally uncommon beyond 100m depth, deep burrower in mostly clean coarse sand and shell gravel.
