To size: To 51mm. Shell Structure: Solid. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral. Beaks in front of midline. Tumidity: (T:L=1:1.8 [25:45]). Outline: Sub-circular. Posterior margin almost straight/truncated. Lunule heart-shaped, distinct, protrudes, with radiating ridges. Escutcheon well-defined with radiating ridges. Not as well developed in RV where sculpture may encroach on it.

Sculpture: Raised concentric ridges raised further into lamellae in posterior. On ridges and between ridges are fine concentric lines. Margin: Finely crenulate. Ligament: Sunken. Extends over a third of dorsal margin. Hinge: Hefty hinge plate. 3 cardinals in each valve. Tiny tubercule-like protrusion in LV below anterior cardinal. Hint of one in RV. Pallial Musculature: Muscle scars roughly equal: Posterior slightly fatter than anterior. Pallial sinus small, triangular. Periostracum: Thin, matt. Colour: Reddish-brown externally. Cream/white internally.

Distribution & Ecology

Widely distributed across the entire shelf. Lives in a variety of substrates from muddy sand to muddy gravels.
