Notes on Nomenclature
To size: To 65mm. Shell Structure: Solid. Equivalve: Valves equally convex. Equilateral: Inequilateral. Outline: Oval, anterior ears two to three times longer than posterior ears. Contour: Ear in RV with a deep byssal notch. Ctenolium well developed.
Sculpture: Of 25-35 narrow, radial ribs all with prominent flattened spines. Co-marginal sculpture of lines and growth stops. Ears with prominent radial, scaly riblets, RV ear with strong co-marginal folds at junction with disc. Ligament: Crenulate. Colour: Highly variable, from white, shades of red, red-brown, yellow, orange, purple and often overall irregularly patterned.
